Throughout the first season of HBO Dragon HouseThe drama surrounding the Iron Throne revolves around Rhaenyra and Alicent. Viserys Rhaenyra named his successor, but that was before Alicent married and they had a son, Aegon. Aliscent, along with many in the kingdom, believes that Aegon should sit on the Iron Throne when Viserys dies, while Rhaenyra is the king’s chosen heir. In the eighth episode of Dragon House“The Lord of the Tides”, introduced two new characters that further complicate the question of succession a bit.

Part of the problem people have with Rainera assuming the Iron Throne, in addition to being the first-ever Queen of Westeros, is that no one believes her children are legitimate. They’ve all taken after the late Harwin Strong, rather than Lenore Villarion, the man who’s supposed to be their father. However, the legality issue in the Rhinera line is now resolved, as she and Damon have children.
Raynera and Damon got married at the end of last week’s episode of Dragon HouseAfter the death of Lina Villarion and the fake death of her brother Lenore. Any children Rhaenyra and Daemon have together will be considered legitimate, provided they look like Targaryens. This week’s episode revealed that these kids really do exist.
In the six years since the last episode, Raineria and Damon have had two children together: Egon and Viserys. The name Aegon is clearly a major family name, although it’s also a small take on the Alicent family, as that is the name of her eldest son. Viserys is clearly in honor of Rhaenyra’s father. When the king is introduced to his new grandchildren during the episode, he tells Reinera that Viserys is a “proper” name for a king.
There would be no reason to question the legitimacy of the sons of Rhaenyra and Daemon, but they would not be immediately tracked down to the next place in the line of the Iron Throne. Doing so likely comes with the recognition that Rhaenyra’s older sons have less claim to, so there’s still a long way to go before Aegon and Viserys play a big role in deciding the throne.
